Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior official commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
